XLC-MA LED Control Units with " MATTER " Control – For Easy Integration into a Smart Home

XLC 60 MA

MEAN WELL is expanding its XLC series of plastic enclosures—which already supports DALI and KNX dimming—to include new models featuring Matter wireless technology: the XLC-25/40/60MA series. This new product line combines DALI, KNX, and Matter in a single driver, thereby offering maximum flexibility and future-proofing—both for use in smart homes and in commercial LED lighting solutions.

The new models, with power ratings of 25W, 40W, and 60W, are fully compliant with the current Matter Standard 1.3 and are officially certified by the CSA Alliance. They enable seamless wireless dimming control in Matter-compatible systems, thereby significantly enhancing the user experience in modern, connected lighting applications.

The Matter standard is an open, cross-vendor communication standard for smart home devices. The goal of Matter is to improve interoperability, reliability, and security in the smart home ecosystem—regardless of the manufacturer or platform used (e.g., Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, or Samsung SmartThings).

Key features of Matter:

  • Cross-platform: Devices with " Matter" support work reliably with various smart-home systems—without proprietary, isolated solutions.
  • Local Communication: Matter relies on local networks (e.g., Wi-Fi, Thread) and allows for control even without a cloud connection.
  • Easier Setup: The setup process for Matter devices is standardized, fast, and user-friendly.
  • Maximum security: Matter uses state-of-the-art encryption techniques and security protocols.

Who is behind it?
Matter was developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) (formerly the Zigbee Alliance). Leading companies such as Apple, Google, Amazon, Samsung, and many other technology manufacturers are actively involved in its development.

Why is Matter relevant for MEAN WELL LED drivers?
By integrating the Matter standard into LED drivers—such as in the new XLC-25/40/60MA series from MEAN WELL —it becomes possible to seamlessly integrate these drivers into a wide variety of smart home systems. This means wireless control (e.g., dimming) via a central app or voice assistants, regardless of the manufacturer.
