Our supplier RECOM has revised the designs of some of the most popular isolated and non-isolated DC/DC converters and achieved significant performance improvements by implementing advanced switching and manufacturing techniques. The addition of synchronous rectification improves efficiency, new planar transformers can be automatically placed and flexible automation keeps costs down - in some new products they have even been significantly reduced.

The new DC/DC series are designated 'K' and include the R-78K-xx series, which serves as a drop-in replacement for the popular three-pole linear regulators. In comparison, however, they now have an extended input range of up to 36V. In addition, the 0.5A and 1A versions offer a wider operating temperature range, improved efficiency, lower weight and smaller housing sizes.
The new RKK series is an upgrade of the existing RKE/RFMM, which are 1W isolated SIP7 DC/DC converters. The new product is characterized by a higher efficiency, which is maintained even at low load. It also offers lower electromagnetic interference (EMI), the ability to operate at temperatures of up to 105°C without loss of performance and a longer service life. The elimination of potting material also improves environmental friendliness, saving costs and almost halving the weight to just 1.7g. The RYK version is also available with a fully regulated output and the same performance improvements.
The popular RSO series with regulated 4:1 input has been expanded to include the RSOK series. This series now offers an extended operating temperature range of up to 88°C without any loss of performance. In addition, the basic insulation has been increased from 2kV 'functional' to a certified 3kV/1min and the insulation capacity has been reduced by half at 50pF. In addition, there are no longer any minimum load requirements.
The new RSK-RUW series is a further development of the RSE series and is characterized by an extended input range of 8:1 compared to 4:1. The insulation strength has been increased from 2kVDC/1sec. to 3kVDC/1min. The efficiency has been increased from 79% to 88.5%, the insulation capacitance at 50pF has been reduced and an operating temperature range of up to 85°C has been made possible without any loss of performance, which corresponds to an increase of 10°C compared to the RSE series.
The 3W SIP8 RS3K-Z series is an upgrade of the RS3E series. The "-K" variant has a 4:1 input range and certified 3kV insulation, while the "-E" series offers a 2:1 input range and also certified 3kV insulation. The RS3K-Z also offers an extended operating temperature range of up to +80°C without loss of performance, improved efficiency and a lower insulation capacitance.
These latest improvements to RECOM's best-selling products are the result of circuit innovations and advanced manufacturing automation that reduces manual assembly labor. This results in performance benefits, better reproducibility and cost savings.
