Klein Tools began in 1857 when Mathias Klein emigrated from Germany to the USA, where he headed west and opened his business in the bustling business district of Chicago. The "communications business" consisted of a few bare wires on thin telegraph poles.
Perhaps the only job that Mathias Klein ever completed only "halfway" was his very first pair of pliers. An overhead line fitter brought a defective side cutter to his forging workshop. Mathias Klein forged and machined a new half of the pliers for the tool, riveted them to the old half of the pliers and the fitter left. He returned shortly afterwards. Now the other original half of the tool was defective, and Mathias Klein forged the second half of the pliers and produced the first complete pair of Klein pliers.
A lot has happened in the world since 1857. Klein has become a multi-million dollar company, but still focuses on the needs of craftsmen - and manufactures products that meet professional quality standards.
Klein Tools not only manufactures first-class products. Klein Tools makes world-class products that meet the needs of those who use them every day. Because our standards are as high as yours, we expect each of our hand tools to deliver the performance, durability and precision required to get the job done flawlessly. Because we use only the highest quality materials and excellent workmanship, we can meet these rigorous standards. Klein is not only the name of our company, Klein is also our family name. That's why we have to be proud of everything we produce. For professional craftsmen, only the best is good enough. That's why we're the number one choice for electrical professionals in the USA.
Today, Klein Tools Inc. stands for much more than Klein pliers. The company's product range has broadened to include electrical and telecommunication products as well as virtually all major hand tools for the construction, electronics, mining and general industrial markets.
Klein Tools is still owned and managed by the Klein family. Direct descendants of Mathias Klein are actively involved in all aspects of the company. And Klein Tools still manufactures reliable, efficient and robust tools and equipment.
Internationally, Klein products are available through a robust network of agents and distributors who stock the products required for their markets. Klein is recognized worldwide as a leading manufacturer of professional products with a high reputation.
