MEAN WELL ERG-5000 Series: 5kW Energy Recycling Inverter

The ERG-5000 series from MEAN WELL enables excess energy to be converted back into AC power and reused.

In the classic burn-in test process in the manufacture of power supply units, electronic loads or load resistors are used to test the power supply units before delivery. With this method, the power is converted into heat and is lost unused. Based on the production of a 3kW power supply unit with a burn-in test of 8 hours on the production line, around 6000kWh of energy is consumed for a single power supply unit. (3000W x 8h x 250 working days)

If an ERG-5000 energy recovery inverter from MEAN WELL When used, approximately 80% of the energy can be fed back into the internal AC grid. In the example above, this results in 4800 kWh of energy savings per year. In addition to the resulting cost savings, this also protects the environment and significantly reduces CO2 emissions.

In addition to use for burn-in tests, these inverters can also be used in other applications where energy recovery is useful, such as battery production or testing facilities, energy storage systems, charging stations, etc.  

The ERG-5000 series can be easily integrated into systems with remote or direct monitoring via the fully digital CMU2A controller. Alternatively, direct communication via CANbus is also possible.

The ERG-5000 series from MEAN WELL offers two types of input voltage models: bare type (10~60 VDC) and H type (60~420 VDC). Thanks to the fully digital design of the programmable control functions, the input and output voltage modes can be independently set as constant current or constant voltage via the CANbus protocol or the CMU2A controller. In addition, the ERG-5000 series features a variety of built-in monitoring signals, such as overtemperature, grid fault, overvoltage, and other important alarm functions. For quick connection and integration into the system, the input terminals are designed as standard NEWSOK quick connectors. The devices are also available with screw terminals as an option.
